Assistant Teacher Training Program

Assistant Teacher Training Program

Assistant Teacher

Training Program

Our Assistant Teacher Training Program is intended for AMDA’s most dedicated dancers (ages 12+) who have a passion for dance, are interested in a leadership role at AMDA, and who will inspire positivity amongst our dance family. The ultimate goal of AMDA’s Assistant Teacher Training Program is to properly prepare dancers to help assist AMDA instructors with dance classes. Assistants are incredibly important, as they can help with the flow of the dance class, assist students when needed, take children to the restroom, help guide students during class, provide creative and choreographic ideas, and offer a role model for younger students.

The purpose of this program is to prepare our Assistant Teachers to be able to:

  • Assist and help facilitate the structure of a dance class
  • Lead warm-ups, exercises, and combos when needed by the Instructor
  • Provide corrections and guidance to students
  • Demonstrate movements when needed by the Instructor
  • Understand the philosophy, vision, and purpose of dance classes at AMDA

Benefits of the AMDA Assistant Teacher

Training Program:

  • Instills the importance of leadership
  • Promotes responsibility
  • Positively impacts self-confidence
  • Increases self-awareness
  • Highlights the importance of planning, teaching others, & managing different personalities

Upon completing the AMDA Assistant Training Program, Assistants will be given a completion certificate and will be assigned their classes to assist for the upcoming season. Each additional year spent in the training program will promote Assistants to the next level, which in turn, will give them more responsibilities, opportunities, & classes to assist.

Requirements for dancers interested in joining the Assistant Teacher Training Program:

  • Nearly perfect attendance in their own classes
  • Strong work ethic (demonstrated in classes)
  • Consistently positive attitude in classes, toward AMDA faculty/staff, towards peers,
  • towards parents, and towards themselves
  • Maintains good academic grades
  • Has a passion for dance and commitment to the AMDA family

How can my child join the Assistant Teacher

Training Program?

  • Dancers must complete an Assistant Teacher Application first. Each year, we will select a limited amount of dancers who have the qualities necessary to be a successful teaching assistant. Once a dancer is selected, he/she must register for the Assistant Teacher Training CLASS that takes place once per week, for the entire academic year, or dance season.
  • Dancers interested in assisting, must have the maturity and disposition to deal with children in a busy dance class. They must have reached an acceptable level of efficiency in their own dance training. They must be good role models. They must use their voice when appropriate in the classroom.
  • It’s important to remember that being an assistant in the past does not guarantee that you will automatically be an assistant again. Assistants must work to their fullest potential and show growth and maturity in order to continue with the program.

If your dancer is interested in becoming an AMDA Assistant Teacher Trainee, please contact us via email or phone to receive an application. After applications have been received and approved, we will notify you and register your dancer for the “Assistant Teacher Training” class.
